Himalaya, A Path to the Sky

Welcome to another world. A barren and desolate landscape of heart-stopping beauty. A lost valley 4000m above sea level, the highest habitable valley in the Himalayas. Director Marianne Chaud journeyed to this hidden community, to Phuktal monastery in the Zanskar region where monks live a middle-age-like existence. Filming this buddhist community, and the children in particular, Chaud follows one 8 year old boy, Kenap, as he takes classes in philosophy, handles wood and water chores, plays games and attends prayer sessions. She sensitively captures the incredible winter journey which enables the community to provide for the abundant rituals in the villages in the region.
