Severance

“Severance” is a 2022 sci-fi thriller series created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller and Aoife McArdle. The show stars Adam Scott as Mark, an employee of Lumon Industries who undergoes a procedure known as “severance,” which surgically divides his work and personal memories, creating two distinct consciousnesses. At work, Mark and his colleagues, including characters played by Britt Lower, John Turturro, and Christopher Walken, have no recollection of their outside lives, and vice versa. As they begin to uncover unsettling truths about Lumon and the severance program, the show explores themes of identity, free will, and the nature of corporate control. “Severance” is praised for its inventive premise, tense atmosphere, and thought-provoking commentary on work-life balance and personal autonomy.
